Kazakhstan, Central Asia’s largest country, has unveiled a carefully curated list of top travel destinations that combine natural beauty, cultural depth, and enhanced tourism infrastructure. This release comes as the country sees a rise in domestic travel.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has introduced a selection of the best spots for relaxation, targeting both local and international visitors. The list highlights locations famous for their stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and the increasing accessibility and comfort they offer to travelers.
One standout destination is Katon-Karagay, located in the Altai Mountains near the borders of Russia and China. This national park is Kazakhstan’s first to be included in the prestigious Green Destinations list, an international acknowledgment for sustainable tourism. Spanning over 643,477 hectares (1,591,912 acres) in the East Kazakhstan region, the park is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
Travelers can enjoy hiking through alpine meadows, soaking in the healing waters of the Rakhmanovskie Klyuchi hot springs, or relaxing by the peaceful Lake Yazevoye. Katon-Karagay is also a gateway to Mount Belukha, the highest peak in the Altai range and a revered site. For those interested in culture, the Shuker Shaizhunisov Museum offers insight into the region’s history and ethnography.
