Nishant Pitti, founder and chairman of EaseMyTrip, has raised serious concerns over national security risks associated with certain travel booking platforms. In a recent post on social media platform X, Pitti warned that Indian passport data might be accessible to companies with major Chinese ownership—an issue he described as more than just a business matter.
“Before booking your travel, ask — is the platform truly aligned with Bharat, or majority-owned by foreign regimes hostile to us?” Pitti posted. He tagged key government agencies including the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of External Affairs, urging a closer look at data privacy practices. “Some popular travel apps, with significant Chinese ownership, may be accessing Indian passport data. This isn’t just about business – it’s a national security issue,” he added.
Nishant also voiced support for comments made by Rikant Pitti, CEO and Co-founder of EaseMyTrip, who has consistently emphasized the company’s commitment to national interest. Rikant highlighted that EaseMyTrip was the only Indian online travel agency to voluntarily suspend bookings to the Maldives for over a year—not as a publicity stunt, but as a gesture of solidarity, following strained relations between the two countries.
He also referenced the company’s prompt response following the Pahalgam terror attack, stating, “While many stayed silent, we were once again the first to issue a travel advisory against Turkey and Azerbaijan for their open support to Pakistan, urging Indian travellers to avoid non-essential visits.”
“As a proud Indian company, the safety and sentiments of Indian travellers have always guided our actions,” Rikant added.
The Pittis’ statements come amid growing scrutiny of tech platforms with foreign ownership and the potential misuse of sensitive user data, particularly in sectors as critical as travel.
