WestJet Adjusts Summer Schedule to Focus on Domestic Travel from Edmonton

by Mary

Travelers flying from Edmonton International Airport will soon have more options for summer travel within Canada, especially to British Columbia’s Interior, as WestJet updates its flight schedule.

Starting July 6, WestJet will resume nonstop flights between Edmonton and Kamloops. The airline is also adding flights to and from Prince George.

At the same time, WestJet will pause some U.S. routes, including its summer flights to Atlanta, due to lower demand.

WestJet explained the changes: “Due to a drop in travel demand to U.S. destinations, we have updated our summer schedule to better serve Canadian travelers. This includes temporary suspensions of some U.S. routes.”

WestJet also noted increased interest in domestic travel, recently announcing new routes from Halifax and enhancing Edmonton’s domestic network. The airline is boosting connections between Canada and Europe with new flights from Halifax to Amsterdam and Barcelona.

WestJet added that it adjusts its flight schedules regularly to match demand and encouraged travelers to check WestJet.com for the latest updates.

For traveler Nick Redmond, the schedule changes came at the right time. He canceled his planned U.S. trip, citing tensions between Canada and the U.S., and instead booked flights to Vancouver and Europe.

“I think it really shows Canadians sticking together and staying true to our values instead of folding under pressure during the trade dispute,” Redmond said.
