“Most measles cases and outbreaks in the U.S. start with someone who isn’t fully vaccinated traveling to countries where measles is common,” said Dr. Camille Sabella, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. “Right now, measles is widespread in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.”

Dr. Sabella warned that unvaccinated children face the greatest risk of serious complications from measles. He strongly recommends getting the MMR vaccine.
