The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office has successfully completed six road improvement projects, aimed at enhancing travel safety, traffic flow, and regional economic development across north central Iloilo.
“These road improvements demonstrate our commitment to providing safer, more efficient travel for motorists and fostering economic growth in our communities,” said DPWH-Western Visayas Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, emphasizing the projects’ long-term benefits for local residents and industries.
Key among the completed projects is the P22.5-million widening of a 1.8-kilometer stretch along the Barotac Nuevo-Dumangas-Dacutan Wharf Road. Each lane has been expanded to 3.65 meters and fitted with solar-powered LED lighting and reflectorized pavement markings, significantly improving night-time visibility and road safety.
Meanwhile, the P9.2-million upgrade of the Banga Bante-Banga Polot-an-Barotac Nuevo Road involved widening a 0.86-kilometer section to 3.35 meters, with a 0.30-meter pavement thickness. The addition of thermoplastic markings, rumble strips, and other traffic safety features ensures a smoother, safer driving experience for motorists.
These improvements are part of a broader infrastructure initiative designed to strengthen regional connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development throughout Iloilo Province.
