AAA Travel anticipates a busy Memorial Day holiday, projecting 45.1 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, May 22, and Monday, May 26.
While some travelers will embark on long-distance vacations, many are expected to stick closer to home. Stacey Barber, AAA Travel’s vice president, emphasized that Memorial Day getaways don’t have to be costly or extravagant.
“While some travelers embark on dream vacations and fly hundreds of miles across the country, many families just pack up the car and drive to the beach or take a road trip to visit friends,” said Barber. “Long holiday weekends are ideal for travel because many people have an extra day off work and students are off from school.”
This year’s Memorial Day travel volume is expected to be one of the busiest in recent years, underscoring the ongoing demand for both budget-friendly road trips and major travel adventures as summer approaches.
