Highlights of Guangxi Activity Week

The Guangxi Activity Week, hosted by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will feature a diverse “4+3+N” program. This includes four main events within the China Pavilion at the Expo: an opening ceremony, exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) performances, and artistic shows.

During the week, the Guangxi Culture and Tourism Department will organize a range of activities, including the opening ceremony, a “Discover Guangxi” tourism and culture promotion event, a business between Chinese and Japanese tourism enterprises, an interactive display of Guangxi’s unique ICH, a fine art exhibition by the Li River School, and various cultural performances. These events aim to provide an immersive experience for attendees, allowing them to explore Guangxi’s rich ICH and cultural charm through visual, tactile, and sensory interactions.

Cultural and Tourism Showcases

In terms of cultural display, Guangxi will send outstanding cultural and artistic workers to perform programs that highlight Chinese characteristics and Guangxi’s unique charm, such as the folk music performance “Ballads of Sister San” and the dance “Ink Painting Poetry.” The event will also feature a fine art exhibition by the Li River School and an ICH display area where inheritors will demonstrate traditional crafts like folding fans, embroidery, and pottery. Interactive activities like rubbings and ethnic clothing experiences will also be organized.

The focus will be on promoting Guangxi’s high-quality cultural and tourism resources and facilitating inbound tourism through convenient services. The event will introduce mountain and water, health and wellness, and ethnic-themed inbound tourism routes, offering a variety of travel options for international visitors.

Ongoing Cultural and Tourism Exchanges

Liu Guojian, Deputy Inspector of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Culture and Tourism Department, highlighted that Guangxi has long maintained friendly cultural and tourism exchanges with various parts of Japan.

Guangxi has organized groups to visit Kyoto and Tokyo for cultural and tourism exchange activities and has engaged in in-depth cooperation with organizations such as the Japan Travel Association, Kyoto Prefecture Tourism Association, and the Japan-China Cultural Association.

These collaborations have focused on mutual product promotion, guest exchange, route development, and travel agent visits, attracting many Japanese tourists to Guangxi. In 2024, the number of Japanese tourists received in Guangxi increased by 82.3% year-on-year, and in the first quarter of this year, it grew by 65.01%.

The Guangxi Activity Week at the 2025 Japan Osaka Expo promises to be a vibrant celebration of culture and tourism, offering a unique window into the rich heritage and modern attractions of Guangxi.
