The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has issued a travel advisory for Monday, May 19, due to strong winds and blowing dust forecasted to impact Southern New Mexico.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), sustained wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, are expected between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. These conditions may significantly reduce visibility, especially on open roads and in desert areas.
NMDOT advises motorists who must travel during this time to:
Monitor local weather forecasts
Avoid driving during peak wind hours if possible
Drive with caution, especially in high-profile vehicles
Watch for sudden drops in visibility due to dust
