The spectacle unfolds across a three-million-year-old glacial boulder field stretching over 1,000 square meters on Cangshan’s eastern slopes. Amid the jumbled rocks of varying sizes – resembling frozen stone waves – clusters of wild cherry trees burst into clouds of pink and white blossoms each spring. The contrast between the delicate flowers and rugged glacial remnants creates a scene straight from fairy tales.
At 1,113.5 meters elevation, Cangshan Mountain offers more than floral displays. The summit’s row of wind turbines provides panoramic views of Tiantai’s patchwork of mountains, rivers and tea fields. But during peak bloom in early April, visitors’ attention remains fixed on the middle slopes where the “Stone Wave Cherry Blossoms” phenomenon reaches its crescendo.
