Malaysia has once again secured the ‘Top Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year’ title in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2025, marking a decade of uninterrupted leadership since the index’s inception in 2015. The honor was announced at the 4th Halal in Travel Awards in Singapore and accepted by Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
In his remarks, Khairul Firdaus credited the win to the collective efforts of government agencies, industry players, and communities. He highlighted the role of the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) and its initiatives such as the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR) program and the Muslim-Friendly Tourist Guides (MFTG) certification.
Developed by CrescentRating, GMTI evaluates global destinations based on their offerings to Muslim travelers. Malaysia’s consistent top ranking underscores its commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and hospitality.
Khairul Firdaus also extended an invitation to travelers worldwide to visit during Visit Malaysia Year 2026, promising a culturally rich and welcoming experience.
