A British travel company, Balkan Holidays, has shut down after nearly 60 years of service, leaving travelers with cancelled holidays. The company announced on April 24 that it has ceased trading.
While customers currently on holiday can finish their trips, all future bookings have been cancelled. Affected travelers are being offered refunds, but many will now need to make alternative travel arrangements. Customers who booked directly with the company are advised to contact Balkan Holidays for refunds. Those who booked through third-party agents will need to reach out to their travel agents for assistance.
Balkan Holidays, which offered tours to destinations including Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Malta, and Northern Cyprus, has pledged to process refunds as quickly as possible, prioritizing by departure date.
The company, founded nearly 60 years ago, was once a leader in Bulgarian holidays and operated departures from 17 British airports. At its peak, it served 130,000 customers annually. However, its customer numbers have dwindled in recent years, and for the period ending March 2026, the company was licensed to carry just 27,817 Atol-protected passengers.
