In an effort to improve the travel experience for international and transit passengers, Shanghai Pudong Airport has announced plans to construct sleep pods and free shower facilities in its terminals. The airport aims to provide more comfortable resting options for travelers who may have long layovers or early flights.
The sleep pods will be located near the international departure gates 24 in Terminal 1 and gate 67 in Terminal 2. Each location will offer between 10 and 20 sleep pods, designed for short naps, work, or relaxation. The estimated cost for using the sleep pods is 65 yuan per hour or 333 yuan per night, though the actual rates will be confirmed upon the official launch. These facilities are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, providing passengers with a convenient place to rest during their layovers.
In addition to the sleep pods, Pudong Airport is also planning to install free shower facilities to cater to the hygiene needs of international and transit passengers. Five locations will be equipped with a total of 11 shower rooms, complete with free showers and hairdryers. These facilities will be situated in the international transit and arrival areas of Terminal 1, as well as in the international-to-domestic and arrival corridors of Terminal 2. The shower facilities are expected to be completed by June 2025, offering passengers a refreshing option during their layovers.
These new amenities reflect Pudong Airport’s commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and satisfaction. By providing sleep pods and free shower facilities, the airport aims to create a more pleasant and convenient environment for travelers, especially those with long layovers or early flights. These improvements are expected to contribute to a more enjoyable travel experience for passengers transiting through one of China’s busiest airports.
