As summer travel plans ramp up, the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Jamaica, urging Americans to “Reconsider Travel” to the Caribbean destination due to widespread violent crime and health system limitations.
Despite welcoming 4.3 million visitors in 2024 and generating $4.3 billion in tourism revenue, Jamaica faces ongoing safety challenges. The advisory notes that while tourist zones tend to experience lower levels of violence, U.S. citizens have been victims of violent crimes, including incidents at resorts.
The advisory also cites concerns about limited law enforcement response and inadequate healthcare infrastructure, factors that can complicate emergencies for travelers.
The warning comes at a time when many Americans are finalizing summer vacations, highlighting the importance of staying informed and evaluating risks before traveling abroad.
