The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) anticipates more than 750,000 people will be on the state’s roads this Memorial Day weekend. Peak travel periods are forecasted for:
Thursday: 1 PM to 9 PM
Friday: Noon to 8 PM
Monday: 4 PM to 7 PM
While many construction projects will pause during the holiday, County Highway Commissioner Brian Field reminds drivers to remain cautious near work zones. He emphasized that advance warnings, such as signs and message boards, are posted early to alert motorists about closures and detours.
Field advises travelers to plan ahead—consider leaving early, driving slower, or selecting alternative routes to avoid delays caused by one-lane closures or detours.
“We do our best to give advanced warning to save you the inconvenience,” Field said.
