South African Travel Agents Report Decline in Demand for European Holidays

by Mary

According to 54% of surveyed travel agents, demand for European destinations has decreased compared to last year. Meanwhile, 27% observed stable interest, and 19% saw an increase.

Angie Cachao from Thompsons Travel highlighted inflation and rising living costs as key reasons behind this shift, particularly affecting bookings to countries like Switzerland. Economic pressures, including higher airfare, visa fees, and accommodation costs, are causing tourists to reconsider Europe and seek more affordable alternatives with simpler travel requirements.

This change signals a trend toward more cautious and value-conscious holiday planning among South African travellers.
