Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector has kicked off 2025 with robust growth, welcoming 1.4 million overnight visitors in the first quarter, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) announced on May 27. China emerged as one of the strongest source markets, driving the surge in international arrivals.
On the same day, DCT Abu Dhabi made a prominent appearance at the Shanghai International Tourism Fair (SITF), where it signed multiple joint marketing agreements with major Chinese online travel agencies. These partnerships aim to leverage digital platforms to promote Abu Dhabi’s cultural attractions and luxury experiences to Chinese travelers.
“The first quarter’s performance underscores Abu Dhabi’s appeal as a year-round destination for global tourists,” said a DCT Abu Dhabi spokesperson. “China’s contribution is particularly significant, reflecting the deepening cultural exchange and travel demand between our nations.”
The emirate’s tourism recovery strategy focuses on blending heritage with modernity, highlighting landmarks like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and futuristic developments such as Saadiyat Island. The agreements signed at SITF will facilitate targeted promotions, including themed tour packages and exclusive offers for Chinese visitors.
Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector has been prioritizing the Chinese market, with initiatives like direct flight expansions and visa facilitation. The emirate aims to capitalize on post-pandemic travel trends, positioning itself as a premier destination for luxury, cultural immersion, and family tourism.
