According to data released by the Peruvian National Immigration Bureau, from January to April 2025, the number of international tourists visiting Peru exceeded 1 million, marking a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This significant growth indicates a robust and stable development of the local tourism industry.
The Peruvian Ministry of Tourism emphasizes that air connectivity plays a crucial role in the resurgence of tourism. Currently, Peru has opened 48 international routes, connecting 22 countries in the Americas and Europe. The Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, the capital, offers direct flights to 43 international destinations. Cusco Airport can fly directly to Colombia, Bolivia, and Chile, while Chiclayo Airport has opened a route to Panama.
The Peruvian government anticipates even more international routes by the end of 2025. Turkish Airlines will launch a direct flight to Istanbul, and there will be new flights between Lima and Curazao, Florianópolis in Brazil, and Orlando in the United States. This expansion will bring the number of international airline operators to 29.
In addition, through a public – private partnership model, Peru has been actively developing airport infrastructure. By April 2025, 18 airports have been modernized, with a cumulative investment of approximately $1.091 billion.
With world – renowned cultural heritages like Machu Picchu and the unique ecological landscapes of the Amazon Rainforest, Peru has long been a popular tourist destination. As air connectivity improves and infrastructure continues to develop, Peru’s tourism industry is expected to achieve even greater growth, attracting more travelers from around the world to explore its rich culture and natural beauty.
