Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a travel advisory urging citizens to defer all non-essential travel to Jammu & Kashmir in India and to Pakistan due to escalating security concerns. The advisory cites the volatile situation between the two nations, particularly along their shared border regions.
The advisory follows heightened tensions after a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 Hindu tourists. The assailants reportedly targeted non-Muslim individuals, leading to widespread condemnation and retaliatory actions from both India and Pakistan. In response, India conducted air and missile strikes across several cities in Pakistan, while Pakistan claimed to have downed five Indian fighter jets.
Singaporeans currently in these regions are advised to remain vigilant, avoid large gatherings, and monitor local news closely. The MFA recommends registering with the Singapore eRegister for updates and assistance.
Travel agencies have reported cancellations and rerouting of tours to the affected areas, reflecting the growing concern among travelers.
