American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has introduced a new feature within its Egencia travel management platform designed to help companies reduce the carbon footprint of business travel. The tool assists travel managers in selecting more sustainable options by recommending rail alternatives, carbon-efficient flights, cabin classes, and flights powered by sustainable aviation fuel.
This initiative builds on Amex GBT’s existing carbon pricing features and sustainability-focused options such as electric rental vehicles and hotels with third-party sustainability certifications.
John Sturino, SVP of Product and Engineering at Amex GBT, emphasized the importance of empowering companies to make eco-friendly travel decisions while maintaining competitive pricing.
Reducing travel-related carbon emissions is a key step in addressing climate challenges, as aviation alone contributes about 2.5% of global CO₂ emissions.
