United Airlines is updating its fleet with a new version of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that will offer more premium seating and significantly fewer standard economy seats. At least 30 of these redesigned planes are expected to join the fleet by 2027. The first will arrive later this year and begin service in 2026.
The initial flights using the new aircraft will operate between San Francisco and two major international destinations: London and Singapore.
A major feature of the new Dreamliners is the introduction of United Polaris Studio, a larger and more luxurious business-class suite. The Polaris Studio will be 25% bigger than United’s current Polaris seat. Each plane will have eight Polaris Studios arranged in the front row of the two business-class cabins.
These private suites will include features like a 27-inch TV, privacy doors, wireless charging, a companion ottoman, and high-end amenities such as a caviar course and luxury skincare products.
In addition to the Studios, each Dreamliner will have:
- 56 standard Polaris business-class suites
- 35 Premium Plus (premium economy) seats
- 33 Economy Plus seats with extra legroom
- Only 90 standard economy seats
This is a major shift from the current Dreamliner layout, which includes:
- 48 business-class seats
- 21 premium-economy seats
- 39 Economy Plus seats
- 149 standard economy seats
With these changes, United is focusing on meeting growing demand for premium travel, especially on long-haul international routes.
