Hundreds of UK travelers were left stranded at Palma de Mallorca Airport after multiple flight cancellations caused widespread disruption on Tuesday.
The cancellations were blamed on air traffic control (ATC) restrictions, with airlines including easyJet citing poor weather conditions across Europe. In statements, several carriers described the situation as “outside of [their] control.”
The chaos comes just days after Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary criticized Europe’s air traffic control services. He warned that “shoddy ATC services” could lead to record delays this summer.
Passengers at the busy Spanish airport described the terminal as overcrowded, with many travelers left waiting for hours with little information and no clear path forward.
