Major Redevelopment Set to Transform Birmingham’s Private Plane Terminal

by Mary

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is set to undergo a $40 million redevelopment focused on its private aviation area. This section of the airport serves private planes and business flights.

Jeff Foland, CEO of Atlantic Aviation, said the business has been growing steadily. He noted that the demand comes not only from aircraft based at the airport but also from those flying in temporarily.

Atlantic Aviation is funding the project. The redevelopment will include a new Fixed Based Operator (FBO) terminal of 7,500 square feet. This terminal will feature a café, conference rooms, and comfortable lounges for flight crews.

In addition, two large hangars—each 30,000 square feet—will be constructed. These hangars will include office and workshop spaces. The FBO campus will also gain seven acres of additional ramps and runways.

Foland called this project the company’s “newest flagship” and said it will be the most modern and complete private aviation campus in their network of 105 locations across North America. He added it will rank among the best private aviation hubs worldwide.

He emphasized the importance of updating infrastructure to match the needs of a world-class city. “This market has been very important to Atlantic Aviation for a long time, and it will remain so for decades,” Foland said. The new facilities will help manage more traffic efficiently and support the broader economic growth of Birmingham.
