In a significant milestone for Sino-Malaysian tourism cooperation, a 254-member Malaysian pilgrimage and team-building group touched down in Tai’an in 2025, marking the largest inbound tourist delegation from Southeast Asia received by Shandong Province this year. The grand welcome ceremony was held at the Taohuayu Outdoor Training Base, where Tai’an city officials presented cultural and tourism promotional materials to the visitors.
Upon entering China via Jinan, the group embarked on a journey to explore Mount Tai, immersing themselves in the grandeur and profound cultural heritage of this revered peak, known as the “First of the Five Great Mountains.” Representing Apple Vacations & Conventions Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s leading travel agency since 1996, which annually sends nearly 10,000 tourists to China, Chairman and CEO Koh Yok Heng shared, “This trip combines team-building with experiencing Mount Tai’s charm. We aim to promote Tai’an more vigorously upon our return.”
This year, Tai’an has rolled out multiple initiatives to enhance its global appeal, including the release of several policies focused on expanding overseas tourist markets, improving service quality, and crafting attractive travel routes. Targeted marketing efforts have been made in key markets such as Japan and South Korea, while three themed Mount Tai pilgrimage tour packages and three self-guided travel itineraries were launched for Japanese, South Korean, and Hong Kong tourists.
The Malaysian group’s visit underscores Tai’an’s success in attracting international visitors and strengthening its position as a premier cultural tourism destination. Looking ahead, Tai’an will leverage this opportunity to deepen cooperation with Southeast Asian countries, aiming to further expand its presence in the international tourism arena and elevate its inbound tourism industry to new heights.
