Online travel company Traveldream abruptly shut down in late April, disrupting dozens of bookings for flights, hotels, cruises, and tours. Many Australian travelers had paid tens of thousands of dollars for trips that are now uncertain or canceled. Some travelers abroad discovered their hotel reservations were never confirmed.
Operating under Australian Travel Deals Pty Ltd, had been facing financial difficulties for months, including staff layoffs before the shutdown.
The collapse has left many customers stranded and out of pocket, highlighting ongoing risks in booking through online travel agencies.
