UK Issues Balcony Safety Warning for Spain-Bound Tourists

by Mary

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to British holidaymakers heading to Spain this summer, urging caution after a series of serious balcony accidents.

Despite recent protests and growing anti-tourism sentiment in parts of Spain, the country remains a top destination for UK travelers. Popular cities like Benidorm, Barcelona, and Seville are expected to see a major surge in visitors over the next few months.

But the FCDO is reminding tourists to stay safe, especially while relaxing on balconies—a favorite vacation activity that could come with unexpected risks.

The warning follows several accidents, some of which have been fatal. In one incident, a 15-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after falling from a first-floor balcony in Majorca last year.

“Balcony accidents can and do happen,” the FCDO advised. “Take extra care and avoid risky behavior while on holiday.”

As summer approaches, officials are urging British travelers to enjoy their holidays responsibly and stay alert, especially when staying in high-rise accommodations.
