A group of young Taiwanese professionals who previously assisted with rural revitalization projects in Xiamen’s Haicang District returned this week for a special cultural exchange. The zongzi-making event, held in the transformed Chitu Village of Hongtang Village, brought together local residents and their Taiwanese collaborators to share traditions ahead of the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival.
Hands-on cultural immersion creates lasting bonds
Village elders patiently demonstrated traditional zongzi-wrapping techniques to the Taiwanese participants, many of whom were experiencing the craft for the first time. “There’s something deeply satisfying about creating these perfectly shaped, flavorful dumplings,” remarked Zhou Yanshi, a Taiwanese participant celebrating his first Dragon Boat Festival on the mainland. The Xiamen Taiwanese Investors Association reported the event successfully created a warm, familial atmosphere while reinforcing appreciation for shared cultural heritage through interactive celebration of time-honored traditions.
Sustained collaboration yields meaningful exchanges
This event marks the latest in ongoing cultural exchanges stemming from the rural revitalization partnership. Local officials noted these activities have become valuable opportunities for cross-strait connection, blending modern development with traditional customs. Participants from both sides expressed hope for continued collaboration that preserves cultural roots while fostering mutual understanding through practical, hands-on experiences.
