China’s postal and express industry processed 1.51 billion parcels during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday (May 31-June 2), marking a 19.4% year-on-year increase, according to data released by the State Post Bureau on June 3.
Specialized services enhance holiday deliveries
Express companies implemented innovative solutions nationwide to meet holiday demand. In Zhejiang’s Jiaxing, dedicated “zongzi delivery lines” and smart stations reduced delivery times by 2-3 hours. Guizhou’s Renhuai employed specialized insulated packaging to maintain freshness of the traditional rice dumplings. The sector widely adopted smart technologies including automated sorting, intelligent warehousing and AI-powered transportation systems to support seasonal food delivery demands.
Cold chain networks boost fresh produce shipments
The summer season has accelerated shipments of perishable goods including lychees, loquats, cherries and bayberries. New logistics solutions emerged nationwide: Shandong’s Heze launched dedicated flower cargo flights to Ezhou; Guangxi established direct fruit shipping channels from collection points to distribution centers; Yunnan’s Xuanwei created agricultural product hubs combining logistics with local employment; and Sichuan’s Hanyuan deployed drones that deliver cherries from mountain orchards to collection points in just seven minutes.
Industry upgrades transform rural logistics
Liu Jiang, director of strategic planning at the State Post Bureau Development Research Center, noted significant technological advancements: “During peak seasons, companies are accelerating unmanned vehicle deployment and smart station construction while improving cold chain infrastructure to reduce agricultural product losses.” County-level automated sorting and standardized township service points are significantly enhancing rural delivery capabilities, creating more efficient nationwide distribution networks for local specialties.
