According to recent data released by the Peruvian National Immigration Bureau, from January to April 2025, the number of international tourists visiting Peru has exceeded one million, marking a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth signals a robust development trend in the local tourism industry.
The Peruvian Ministry of Tourism emphasizes that the convenience of air transportation plays a crucial role in the tourism recovery. Currently, Peru has opened 48 international routes, closely connecting with 22 countries in the Americas and Europe. The Jorge Chávez International Airport in the capital, Lima, serves 43 international destinations. Cusco Airport offers direct flights to Colombia, Bolivia, and Chile, while Chiclayo Airport has launched a route to Panama.
Moreover, the Peruvian government plans to open more international routes by the end of 2025. These include direct flights to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines, as well as new flights between Lima and Curazao, Florianópolis in Brazil, and Orlando in the United States. Once these plans are realized, the number of international airline operators in Peru will reach 29.
Simultaneously, through a public – private partnership model, Peru is vigorously promoting airport infrastructure construction. As of April, modernization projects of 18 airports have been completed, attracting a cumulative investment of approximately $1.091 billion. These infrastructure improvements not only enhance the travel experience for tourists but also contribute to the long – term development of Peru’s tourism industry, making the country an even more attractive destination for international travelers.
