Vietjet, Vietnam’s fast-growing airline, is making a significant move into Central Asia by launching a joint venture with Qazaq Air in Kazakhstan. The new airline, named Vietjet Qazaqstan, marks an important development in the region’s aviation sector. This is Vietjet’s second such venture, following the launch of Vietjet Thailand in 2014, and signals the airline’s commitment to expanding in markets where low-cost air travel is still developing.
The announcement came during a high-level Vietnamese diplomatic visit to Kazakhstan, highlighting the growing role of aviation in fostering international relations and economic cooperation. Vietjet’s entry into Kazakhstan is expected to offer affordable travel options, transforming connectivity between Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
Vietjet Qazaqstan will begin operations with a fleet of at least 20 Boeing 737 aircraft, expanding both its domestic and international routes. While specific destinations have not yet been revealed, the airline plans to serve as a crucial link between Kazakhstan, Southeast Asia, and key global travel hubs. The venture aims to offer budget-friendly travel options in a market where such services are currently limited, making it a potential leader in the region.
At present, there are no direct flights between Kazakhstan and Vietnam. However, with the distance between the two capitals of about 2,000 nautical miles, the Boeing 737 Max 8 is ideal for these routes. Vietjet Qazaqstan aims to establish a direct air bridge between the countries, improving connectivity and boosting trade and tourism opportunities.
