As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, the disruption to air travel is growing. India has closed 27 major airports in the northern, western, and central regions of the country until Friday, May 9. Affected airports include those in cities such as Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Shimla, and Jammu, among others.
In addition to airport closures, India has suspended approximately 25 flight routes that allow planes to enter Pakistan from Indian airspace. As a result, foreign carriers flying through Pakistani airspace after leaving India will now need to take longer routes to reach their destinations.
The disruptions have already impacted international flights, with both United and American Airlines canceling their services to Delhi on Wednesday. United Airlines stated that it would monitor the situation and make decisions on future flights as more information becomes available.
The uncertainty surrounding the closures and flight cancellations has left travelers concerned about how far the disruptions may spread and how long they might last.
