On Monday, over 450 flights were delayed, leading to major disruptions at Newark and Atlanta international airports. The chaos followed a ground stop order issued over the weekend due to air traffic control issues.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a warning about the possibility of a second ground stop order at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the United States. More than 370 delays had been reported at the airport by Monday afternoon, according to FlightAware data.
This situation follows a ground stop order on Sunday caused by a combination of runway equipment failures, air traffic control system outages, and thunderstorms. The disruptions affected over 500 flights at Atlanta.
Delta Air Lines, which has its main hub in Atlanta, was hit hardest by the delays on Monday.
At Newark Liberty International Airport, 82 flights were canceled, and 85 others were delayed. This followed a similar disruption at the airport on Sunday.
