The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has released its latest Economic Impact Research (EIR), highlighting China’s impressive recovery and growth in the global Travel & Tourism sector. The country is quickly becoming one of the world’s most dynamic markets in this industry.
In 2025, China’s Travel & Tourism sector is expected to contribute a record ¥13.7 trillion to the national economy, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 10.3%. The sector will also support over 83 million jobs, with an additional 1.3 million jobs added this year alone. While this number is still slightly below the pre-pandemic peak, the sector is rapidly closing that gap.
International visitor spending is projected to rise by nearly ¥33 billion, a 13% increase over 2019. Domestic spending is also expected to grow by more than ¥1.1 trillion, reaching ¥7 trillion, solidifying China’s position as a global leader in Travel & Tourism.
