In response to the ongoing U.S. trade war, Clipper Navigation has made significant changes to its ferry service schedule between Victoria and Seattle. The company, which typically operates two round trips a day during the peak summer period, will now reduce this to just one sailing per day. Additionally, there will be no double-sailing days during this time.
Mark Collins, CEO of Clipper Navigation, explained that the company has seen a decline in traffic, contributing to the decision to scale back services. As a result, 20 employees from the Seattle office have been laid off. Although no layoffs have occurred at the Victoria office, around 10 employees may see fewer shifts offered due to the reduced schedule.
This adjustment highlights the broader impact of the ongoing trade tensions on cross-border travel and the ferry industry.
