Qantas is set to improve domestic air travel in Australia by introducing two new non-stop routes linking Perth with Newcastle and Hobart. These flights will cut travel times, remove the need for inconvenient transfers, and open new travel options for both leisure and business passengers traveling between Australia’s east and west.
For the first time, residents of New South Wales’ Hunter Region will have a direct flight connection to Western Australia. Starting September 8, Qantas will operate non-stop flights between Perth and Newcastle three times a week—on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. The five-hour flights will use a 150-seat Airbus A319, adding over 900 new seats weekly and more than 45,000 seats annually.
This service fills a long-standing gap in Australia’s air network. Until now, travelers between Newcastle and Perth had to connect through Sydney or endure long drives. The new direct route removes these barriers, providing an important link that supports tourism, family visits, and business travel—especially in Australia’s growing resources sector.
With this launch, Qantas aims to strengthen connectivity across the country, making travel faster and more convenient for many Australians.
