Will Hong Kong Express’s New Changzhou Route Boost Regional Connectivity?

by jingji16

On May 23, 2025, Hong Kong Express officially launched its new route between Hong Kong and Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. This marks the first direct flight service between the two destinations and is part of the airline’s broader strategy to expand its presence in mainland China. The new route will operate three flights per week, providing a more convenient and flexible travel option for both leisure and business travelers.

The launch of this route is significant as it enhances the aviation network in the Yangtze River Delta region. It also strengthens the connection between the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through a codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific, passengers from Changzhou and surrounding areas can now seamlessly connect to Cathay Pacific’s global flight network via Hong Kong. This not only facilitates international travel for Chinese residents but also makes it easier for overseas travelers to visit Changzhou, promoting local commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Hong Kong Express’s CEO, Margaret Mok, highlighted that Changzhou is the fourth mainland China destination for the airline this year, following Beijing (Daxing), Ningbo, and Sanya. She emphasized that the new route will attract more international tourists to the Yangtze River Delta region and offer Jiangsu residents more travel options. It also provides a convenient transit point for traveling to other global destinations via Hong Kong.
