Why Did Beijing’s Port See Over 8 Million Entries and Exits This Year?

by jingji16

As of May 27, 2025, the number of people entering and exiting Beijing’s port has exceeded 8 million for the year, according to the Beijing Border Inspection Station. This milestone was reached one month (30 days) earlier than last year, with a year-on-year increase of 22.1%. Among them, the number of foreigners entering and exiting the country is close to 2.3 million, up 39.3% year-on-year, accounting for 28.6% of the total number of people entering and exiting.

Since the beginning of this year, the flow of people entering and exiting Beijing’s port has continued to grow at a high level. A series of policies that facilitate the entry of foreigners into China, such as unilateral visa exemption, mutual visa exemption, and transit visa exemption, have been continuously implemented. These policies, combined with the further optimization of the departure tax refund policy, have greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of international travelers for “China tours” and “China shopping”.

So far, the total number of foreigners entering Beijing’s port has reached more than 1.17 million, up 39.3% year-on-year, among which the number of foreigners entering under the visa exemption and 240-hour temporary entry permit policies has reached more than 600,000, nearly double that of the same period last year. The proportion of foreigners entering for tourism, business, and family visits accounts for 70.9% of the total, up 41.4% year-on-year. The proportion of foreigners entering the country has been rising month by month, from 21% in January to 36.4% in April, an increase of 15.4 percentage points.

Starting from June 1, China will implement a visa-free policy for five countries, including Brazil. On the same day, the China-Uzbekistan mutual visa exemption agreement will come into effect, further expanding China’s visa-free “circle of friends”. With the continuous increase in the frequency and density of international flights, and the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival and summer vacation, it is expected that the number of people entering and exiting Beijing’s port will continue to rise.
