On the evening of June 6, the opening ceremony of the 2025 China-Kenya Culture and Tourism Season and a special performance marking the 40th anniversary of China-Kenya acrobatic exchanges was grandly held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
The 400-seat theater was packed as Chinese and Kenyan artists took to the stage together. The event was a spectacular display of cultural exchange. Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, Hannah Cheptumo, said in her opening remarks that the two countries’ cultural and tourism cooperation would deepen mutual understanding and boost bilateral relations.
Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, pointed out that in 2024, the number of Chinese tourists to Kenya exceeded 90,000, a 47.4% year-on-year increase, hitting a record high. This first joint Culture and Tourism Season between the two countries will strongly promote cooperation, enhance friendship, and inject impetus into building a China-Kenya community with a shared future in the new era.
During the opening ceremony, Chinese traditional opera and Kenyan traditional dance amazed the audience. Performances such as erhu and pipa music, along with wonderful shows by Kenyan acrobats, continuously drew applause and cheers.
The China-Kenya Culture and Tourism Season will last until the end of 2025. A series of activities, including live broadcasts of the Great Migration, friendly sports games, the China Cuisine Africa Competition, an animation film exhibition, and a Chinese TV festival, will be held successively, promising an exciting cultural and tourism feast for both sides.
