WEX and Sabre Direct Pay have announced a global partnership to deliver virtual card payment solutions to travel agencies and other travel intermediaries.
As part of this agreement, customers using Sabre Direct Pay — Sabre’s dedicated travel payments platform — will now be able to access WEX’s virtual card technology, the companies said on Monday (June 9).
This integration is expected to simplify international transactions by supporting multiple currencies, time zones, and regions.
According to the release, the virtual card solutions will offer travel companies several benefits. These include faster payments, reduced costs from currency conversion, improved fraud protection, detailed transaction data, and easier chargeback handling.
“This partnership is about giving travel suppliers and agencies the tools they need to keep up with the rapidly changing travel industry,” said Jason Hancock, general manager and vice president of global travel at WEX.
Patricio Boccardo, managing director of Sabre Direct Pay, added, “WEX’s collaboration with us reflects a larger industry shift toward virtual payment systems that are tailored to travel needs.”
Handling B2B payments in the travel and tourism industry is often complicated. 23% of travel companies said they would be very or extremely likely to switch to a new payment processor if it could make payouts easier. Another 38% said they would be somewhat likely to make a switch.
