Research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) shows Kenya’s Travel & Tourism sector is expected to contribute a record KSh1.2 trillion to the economy this year. This marks a 24% increase over 2019 levels and represents more than 7% of the country’s GDP.
Employment and domestic spending are also forecast to hit new highs. The sector is projected to support 1.7 million jobs in 2025, accounting for over 8% of total national employment—nearly one in every 12 jobs in Kenya.
Visitor spending is on the rise across all categories. Domestic visitor spending is expected to reach a new record of just under KSh560 billion. International visitor spending is projected to exceed KSh300 billion, a 31% increase from 2019, nearing its previous peak from 2011.
These record forecasts highlight a strong recovery for Kenya’s Travel & Tourism sector and growing interest among travellers in the country’s coastlines, safari parks, mountains, and vibrant cities.
The sector’s growth reflects Kenya’s increasing appeal worldwide, supported by its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, unique wildlife experiences, and ongoing infrastructure improvements.
