Paul Chan Mo-po, the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stated that since the beginning of this year, a series of diverse activities have been held in Hong Kong, covering culture, sports, and entertainment. These have been rich and varied, leading to a continuous increase in the number of visitors to Hong Kong. In the first five months of 2025, Hong Kong attracted approximately 20 million tourists, with mainland Chinese tourists accounting for around three – quarters of this figure, representing a year – on – year increase of about 10%.
Chan Mo – po expressed in his online journal on the same day that it is estimated that the events in the first half of this year will attract around 840,000 tourists, bringing a consumption volume of 3.3 billion Hong Kong dollars to Hong Kong, as well as an economic added value of 1.8 billion Hong Kong dollars. While planning these events, Hong Kong is actively integrating them with other tourist highlights in the region to enhance the combined effect and improve the tourism experience.
Looking ahead, with more cultural, sports, and tourism events scheduled for the second half of the year, along with new attractions and the unique features of urban, rural, and suburban areas, Hong Kong is expected to draw in a large number of tourists. There is confidence that the number of tourists throughout the year will continue to rise. These tourism – related activities not only boost the local economy but also strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a vibrant international tourism destination.
