The 39th Hong Kong International Travel Expo and the 20th Hong Kong Business Events Expo, key events of Hong Kong in 2025, opened on the 12th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Spanning four days, the expos gathered around 500 exhibitors from over 60 countries and regions, who actively promoted their unique features and explored emerging tourism trends.

Under the theme “From Recovery to Growth,” exhibitors presented the latest travel products and set up engaging interactive sections to showcase local cultures, including mascot photo spots and workshop experiences. To attract more young travelers and families, two new zones—”Youth/Z-Generation Travel” and “Family Travel”—were introduced for the first time, inspiring younger generations to explore the possibilities and significance of travel from fresh perspectives. Over 110 activities, such as exhibitor promotions, seminars, and lectures, will be held during the expo.

In her opening speech, Ronica Tong, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, noted that Hong Kong received about 45 million tourists in 2024, a 31% year-on-year increase, demonstrating the resilience of the local tourism industry and Hong Kong’s appeal as a world-class tourist destination. With around 20 million visitors in the first five months of 2025 (a 12% year-on-year rise), Hong Kong is committed to strengthening traditional tourism resources while exploring new ones, projecting about 49 million tourists for 2025, a 10% increase from the previous year.

At the expo, exhibitors showcased innovative travel routes, and experts were on hand to answer questions. On the afternoon of the 12th, the Asian Tourism Exchange Center held the “Hello! China” briefing on inbound travel policies for the Chinese mainland, covering visa applications, entry procedures, and travel products. This aimed to attract more foreign tourists in Hong Kong and Macao to visit the Chinese mainland, enhancing Hong Kong’s role as a “multi-destination” tourism hub.

Zhang Dong, Director of the Asian Tourism Exchange Center, emphasized that the briefing served as a convenient communication platform. The center will continue collaborating with various parties to promote cultural and tourism exchanges between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, further supporting Hong Kong’s development as a key tourism hub. The first two days of the expo are exclusive for industry professionals, followed by two public days, expected to draw around 70,000 attendees over the four-day period.
