Recently, the 40th Seoul International Travel Show took place at the Seoul International Exhibition Center. The China tourism pavilion, themed “Hello! China,” drew significant attention, attracting numerous local residents for inquiries and experiences. Since China implemented a visa – free policy for South Korean citizens in November last year, the enthusiasm for traveling to China has been continuously rising in South Korea. From the popular “Friday – night – to – China” weekend trips among young people to numerous “China travel guides” on South Korean social media, the wave of traveling to China is surging, enabling more South Koreans to get closer to and understand China.
The exhibition, covering 10,348 square meters with about 500 booths, saw participation from around 350 tourism agencies and enterprises from 45 countries and regions. The China pavilion, spanning 225 square meters, featured multiple functional areas like a stage, display, negotiation, and interactive zones, showcasing traditional Chinese culture and modern cultural – tourism integration achievements. With activities such as tea art shows and intangible cultural heritage displays, it left a deep impression on visitors.
Statistics from South Korea’s Ministry of Justice reveal that from January to April this year, 912,000 South Korean citizens visited China, a 48.5% increase from the same period last year. As summer approaches, the number is expected to grow further.
A survey by the China National Tourist Office in Seoul shows that 69.8% of South Korean tourists prefer independent travel. The office suggests promoting more independent travel products and highlighting unique cultural – tourism attractions to attract more South Korean visitors.
