China’s international air cargo capacity has seen significant expansion in 2024, with 101 new freight routes added during the first five months, according to data from the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing. The development strengthens global supply chain connectivity amid growing cross-border trade demands.
May alone witnessed the launch of 26 new international air cargo routes, contributing to a total of 195 additional weekly flights. Route analysis reveals distinct geographic patterns: 47 new Asia-bound routes and 41 Europe-bound routes dominate the expansion, followed by 10 North American connections. This network growth particularly benefits major trade corridors supporting China’s export economy.
The cargo composition highlights China’s evolving export profile, with e-commerce shipments, electronics, auto parts, industrial equipment, and perishable goods accounting for the majority of transported commodities. Industry experts attribute this diversification to both manufacturing upgrades and booming cross-border online retail.
This strategic infrastructure development comes as global logistics networks adapt to post-pandemic trade patterns and regionalization trends.
