China has introduced a new “ASEAN Visa” to simplify travel and business visits for citizens of the 10 ASEAN countries and ASEAN observer Timor-Leste, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on June 3.
The visa targets business travelers, their spouses, and children who meet the requirements. It allows multiple entries over five years, with each visit permitting a stay of up to 180 days.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian explained that the “ASEAN Visa” builds on existing mutual visa exemptions with countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. It also complements the “Lancang-Mekong visa,” which facilitates travel among Mekong River nations. Together, these efforts aim to make cross-border travel within the region easier.
Lin emphasized that China and Southeast Asian countries have deepened cooperation and personnel exchanges in recent years. The new visa is part of ongoing work to strengthen the China-ASEAN community and foster peace, prosperity, and friendship.
