Peru’s Tourism Industry Experiences Steady Growth

According to recent data released by the National Immigration Bureau of Peru, from January to April 2025, the number of international tourists entering Peru has surpassed one million, reaching a significant milestone. This figure represents a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024, demonstrating a robust upward trend in the local tourism sector.

The Peruvian Ministry of Tourism has emphasized that the convenience of air transportation plays a pivotal role in the resurgence of the tourism industry. Currently, Peru has established 48 international air routes, forging strong connections with 22 countries across the Americas and Europe. The Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, the capital city, offers flights to 43 international destinations, acting as a major aviation hub. Additionally, the Cusco Airport provides direct flights to Colombia, Bolivia, and Chile, facilitating regional travel. The Chiclayo Airport has also opened a route to Panama, further expanding Peru’s international flight network.

Looking ahead, the Peruvian government has ambitious plans to enhance its aviation connectivity. By the end of 2025, more international routes are set to be launched. Turkish Airlines will operate direct flights to Istanbul, and new round – trip flights from Lima to Curazao, Florianópolis in Brazil, and Orlando in the United States will be added. This expansion will bring the total number of international airlines operating in Peru to 29, providing tourists with more choices and greater convenience.

In parallel with the expansion of air routes, Peru has been actively promoting the construction and modernization of airport infrastructure through public – private partnerships. As of April, 18 airports have been successfully modernized, with a cumulative investment of approximately $1.091 billion. These infrastructure improvements not only enhance the travel experience for tourists but also contribute to the long – term development of the tourism industry.
