U.S. Airlines Face Sharp Drop in International Travel in 2025

by Mary

The U.S. airline industry is facing big changes in 2025 compared to last year. One major shift is a drop in international travel to the United States.

Research from North Carolina State shows that international visitors to the U.S. are expected to fall by 9.4 percent in 2025. Visitors from Canada are expected to drop even more, by 20.2 percent.

The U.S. will lose $9 billion in travel spending this year because of the decline. The World Travel & Tourism Council estimates an even larger loss of $12.5 billion.

Cities like New York and Las Vegas are feeling the impact.

Because of these changes, U.S. airlines are adjusting their plans. American Airlines, for example, is changing its winter schedule, expecting fewer international travelers this year.
