As tensions escalate with ongoing missile exchanges between Iran and Israel, the Australian Government has upgraded its travel advice for Australians considering travel to the region.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has expanded its highest travel warning—‘Do not travel’—to cover all of Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, extending to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran.
Previously, travel restrictions targeted only parts of Israel and neighbouring areas, but the deteriorating security situation has prompted a broader ban. The advisory warns of ongoing armed conflict, civil unrest, and terrorism risks, emphasizing that missile strikes and terror attacks can occur anywhere at any time.
DFAT urges Australians to follow local authorities’ instructions, stay alert to personal safety risks, and monitor updates from official sources such as the National Emergency Portal.
The updated advisory also covers the wider Middle East and Gulf region, reflecting the heightened threat environment.
