North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme has spoken out against the recent U.S. travel ban that affects several countries, including Haiti.
Haiti is among 12 countries facing a complete ban on entry to the United States. Cuba and six other countries face partial travel restrictions, especially on certain visa types like B-1, B-2, F, M, and J visas.
Mayor Desulme, who is Haitian-American, expressed deep concern about the travel ban signed by former President Donald Trump. North Miami is home to one of the largest Haitian-American communities in the U.S. The mayor said Haitian residents are more than just part of the city—they are leaders, business owners, healthcare workers, teachers, and parents shaping the future.
She called the ban a “direct attack” on American values. Desulme said the policy causes fear, separates families, and unfairly targets communities that have greatly contributed to the country.
The mayor promised that North Miami will keep supporting its Haitian community. She said the city will keep speaking out for fair and humane immigration policies and fight against actions that divide people instead of bringing them together.
