The U.S. Mission to Pakistan has issued a security alert for American citizens in light of increasing military activity and airspace closures due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India. The U.S. Department of State reiterated its long-standing “Do Not Travel” advisory for areas close to the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control. It also extended a “Reconsider Travel” advisory to the rest of Pakistan.
While the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar are continuing regular operations, the advisory urged Americans in high-risk areas to evacuate if possible. For those unable to leave, the alert advised sheltering in place. The alert also highlighted the uncertainty of air travel in and out of Pakistan due to the ongoing conflict.
