In a bid to boost tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has joined forces with the creators of the globally – beloved “Doraemon” franchise. The result is a special – episode animation titled “Want to Meet That Cat in Thailand”, which made its debut on May 31, 2025, in Japan.
The plot of the animation is both charming and promotional. Doraemon, smitten by a cat in Bangkok featured in a photo taken by Nobita’s friend Suneo, uses the Any – door to start an exciting journey in Thailand. During his adventure, he visits iconic Thai spots such as the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and rides in a tuk – tuk, vividly presenting Thailand’s unique charm to the audience. This Japanese – dubbed animation was broadcast on TV – Asahi in Japan, aiming to attract a large number of Japanese fans of “Doraemon” and inspire them to visit Thailand.
Complementing the animation release, from May 1 to June 22, 2025, a Doraemon – themed exhibition was held in collaboration with ICONSIAM, a leading shopping center in Bangkok. The exhibition was divided into two remarkable zones. The 100% Manga Art Exhibition on the 6th floor of ICONSIAM, spanning over 2000 square meters, displayed original – drawing replicas, life – size character models, and interactive installations, offering visitors an immersive experience into the world of Doraemon. The 100% Doraemon River Park Exhibition on the G – floor presented an amazing sight of a giant 12 – meter – high Doraemon balloon and more than 111 life – size Doraemon models along the Chao Phraya River.
This unique cooperation between the TAT and “Doraemon” not only adds a touch of fun and novelty to Thailand’s tourism promotion but also effectively combines the popularity of the animation IP with the allure of Thai tourism, expected to attract more international tourists to explore the wonders of Thailand.
